Black Forest, 2006
This is a drive-by shot of what I presume is a castle that we spotted one misty morning on our journey between Gengenbach and Strasbourg. The low resolution given by an early model of a digital camera does not diminish the charm of the image for me. As usual, more details can be seen when it is enlarged.
PS. Thank you to Randi for identifying this as the Ortenberg Castle located in the Kinzig Valley near Offenburg. It was first built in 1167 and destroyed in 1678; then this Neo-Gothic palace was built between 1838 and 1843 among the medieval ruins. Today it is a youth hostel.
Posted for Scenic Sunday. Many beautiful scenes to enjoy there.

It looks like a castle to me...it's beautiful! I am really loving your blog!
I know exactly where you are. My sister and her family lived in that area and I have visited both cities over the years. Love this photo, brings back a lot of good memories. Thanks Francisca.
That was a proper fortress and no mistake. The lighting was just right for this one.
Yes, that's a castle if I ever saw one, battlements and all. Wonderful when enlarged.

That does look like a castle, and it would be a fun one to explore. I live in the Black Forest, but my Black Forest is in Colorado and doesn't have any castles!
It sure is a charming photo of an interesting looking castle.
Hieno linna kuva, täällä Suomessa ei tuollaisia kuvauskohteita löydy. Blogissani on nyt Pyhäinpäivän ilta kuvia Noormarkun Hautausmaalta.

A very nice castle!
Love visiting castles and I'd like to know where this one is located. Strasbourg is about 125 km from my place;o)
Thanks for sharing such a nice pic.

Nice. Loads of character..
Beautiful.. I love castles. I'm very fond of fairy tales.. and when I was a kid, I'd make a castle out of cardboard boxes. hehe...
ANyway, this is a great shot. I love it.

I don't think anything would be more "castlelilic." (Yeah, I just made that up that word!)
And one of the wonderful things about photography is that the photo doesn't have to be technically perfect to be outstanding!
I really love the muted colors here (not to mention the castle itself)...
Looks like we'll be heading home in a little over a week!
The very name "Black Forest" conjures up romance! And this photo adds to the mysterious romance of this world! Beautiful!
It's like the castles I pictured when a little girl reading fairy stories (way back in the dark ages when there were no videos to watch instead of reading.... and actually that's one of the things that make me happy to be old!
Fantastic! Would love to see that in person!
From a distance, it looks so huge!
This definitely the stuff of fairy tales!
Great shot - looks like 2 photos in one ;-)
That looks so majestic.

Thanks again****
Oh my stars this picture doesn't even look real. I love the dimensions from bottom to top. The castle is enchanting. Great work for a drive by.
Nope, the low res doesn't diminish it at all, and in fact adds something to the atmosphere, most likely. I never get tired of looking at castles and have a few drive-bys myself. You captured this one really well!
Makes me thing of fairytales and slaying dragons! :-D
Thanks Francisca, for popping by... it´s no problem growing a garden here in Sweden..."smile"
The photo of the old ORTENBERG castle is beautiful.
I really liked your article.
