[MyWorld] Chişinău Cathedral

Today I worked in Chişinău, the capital of Moldova. Before the final rays of sun disappeared I made it to the central Cathedral Park to capture this beautiful Orthodox church and its bell tower. Architect A. Melnikov designed these buildings in the style of late Russian classicism and they were erected between 1831-1835.

 Moldova, 2011

Seeing people enter the church, I followed. When I went inside, I heard a mass in progress with gorgeous choir music. Standing at the very back, I listened for quite some time and was ale to snap this one image of the spectacular interior without disturbing the devout.

What excellent photos, Francisca. And I love the way you eloquently captioned them. Succinctly and gracefully. Well done, my friend!

I can just imagine how awe-inspiring it was standing there and hearing the choir beneath the large dome. What a beautiful church and how lucky you were to visit and capture the memory.

Superb captures, Francisca, as always! And such a gorgeous cathedral -- inside and out! And you were indeed lucky to be able to hear the choir. Does make for a memorable visit! Thanks for sharing!! Enjoy your week!

How wonderful to get inside and actually hear a choir (and a mass) in addition to seeing the beauty of the interior.

Such amazing beauty! I'm quite surprised that it's still so beautiful having lasted through Communist rule!

That's an amazing church! We have nature out here, but sometimes I miss any sense of history.

Like you, I could also not resist getting inside a church. There's so much story inside churches.

So am I. I agree the outside is beautiful but the inside is drop dead gorgeous.

Oh I agree totally with Ciel, the inside is splendid! Being able to join the service sounds fabulous, too! Loving your world, Francisca :-D

The cathedral interior is very beautiful, as is the lighting on the dome and tower.
The exterior raised a question: what is the spherical pierced sculpture near the bell tower supposed to represent?

Excellent clear shots. Lovely photos.

Hi Francisca, how are you? That is a beatiful church. The facade reminds me of our Supreme Court, Post Office in Lawton, Finance Bldg in Luneta, with those Corinthian Collumns. Thanks for bringing us also to Moldova.

These are very impressive photos, F. You know what I think of religion, but one must celebrate the beauty as one beholds it. The interior shot is pure gold!
