Palm Shadow

Manila, 2011

A potted palm casting its shadow in our lanai (veranda). The organic shape of the leaves in contrast to the geometric lines of the house appeals to me.

What a beautiful shadow! I really like shadows like this in black and white. I've been taking some late afternoon photos of shadows myself. Now I just need to find time to make them black and white. :)

Have a great weekend!

I'm always a sucker for photos of light and shadows. This one is excellent!! It is especially effective for being black and white (which is a setting I think I should experiment with much more!)

A truly superb shadow shot, Cisca! For me it is a classic! I love the sharp shadows of the plant and the softer ones of of the house! Happy SSS! Enjoy your weekend!

Love how the shadows from the leaves are spilling out all over the ground around the pot!

Shadows of onyx, shadows of grey,
Shadows to chase my doldrums away;
Shadows each morning, shadows at night,
Shadows, O shadows, you’re my delight!

This has a lot of impact - simple but atmospheric - a great B&W choice.

I like the way the shadow takes up more space in the shot than the actual plant does - your eye is drawn down towards the bottom of the photo and then back up to look at the plant.
