P is for Plow

On our way back home after a meeting in the city of Târgovişte we stopped at a roadside car wash in a small village about an hour north of Bucharest. While the car was getting a good clean, I went for a stroll with my camera.

This friendly farmer with a simple manual plow walked towards me and I asked (with body language) if I could take his photo. Didn't he give me a wonderful smile and pose?

He may be one of the 64% of Romanian farmers who produces on a rather small plot of land for personal consumption.

Despite the vintage look I gave this photograph, I took it only two months ago.

This primitive plow and perky plower join Jennie's Alphabe-Thursday where P is the letter of the week.

When you compare that plow to the enormous, computerized and air-conditioned behemoths that ride up and down our farm fields you have to wonder who's got it right.

That looks like a complicated piece of machinery...but a very nice smile! Bet he knows perfectly well what he's doing. I love making my own veggies, too :D

I'm sure he works extremely hard to grow his crops. I wouldn't care to have to use that equipment.

He sure did! Great photo.

Interesting experience you are having!

It's hard to believe people still use those types of tools.... which just goes to show what a narrow existence I lead!

I like the way you show us this man at work. Romania, this is so typical. A saw so many people doing it this way or with the help from a horse.
That is another life in the European Union.

The plow and the vintage look - hmmm...I'd say this photo was taken in 1921! Or before!

Thanks for your nice comments.

Re this gentleman with the plow: I just love pictures (or portraits) of people in their daily life and that reflect their character and personality.

Our great country was developed with old plows like that. I think it is a thing of honor!~Ames

I love visiting you. You take me to places I have never seen and show me images I might never imagine.

What a perfect link to the letter 'P' this week.

Thank you.

wow...that plow looks very ancient indeed, and it seems to require hard labor to make it work!
