Chain of Love

For Today's Flower I present you the pretty cadena de amor... or chain of love, aka coral vine. It's a climbing vine with clusters of small pink flowers and heart-shaped leaves that is amply found here in the Philippines.

Its scientific name is Antigonon Leptopus.

Yes Francisca, and i am sure you know they have been widely planted along EDSA during the previous MMDA Chairman as highlights of the pink color, however they cannot tolerate too much pollution they die. We also have a white variety of Antigonon leptopus, though not as common as the pink, which also grow luxuriantly even in public cemeteries.

What a beautiful vine and I love the name. The individual flowers are very prettily designed and such a lovely colour.

Pretty collage Francisca.
Is that one of those mile-a-minute vines? It looks like the pink cousin of a vine we called Bride's Tears, and it just about covered our two story house until I pulled it off.
i would have preferred this pink form.

It's very beautiful, Francisca. We have similar vines here in Florida...some of which grow so fast and strong they can take over a yard very quickly! We had one at our former house in Ocala that was such a pain - it grew into a monster every summer and required hours of work to trim back.

By the way, I was just reading an interesting article in the magazine, The Nation, which deals with the Philippine congress and describes the life of a Mr. Walden from the time he called Imelda Marcos a fascist at a program in the Kennedy Center to his present standing as a member of the Philippine congress...I haven't finished it yet, but I'm fascinated...

It's beautiful! Glad you have a close-up in the mosaic.

Me again...yes, that's the same article as in The Nation...I don't know Walden at all but from what I've read I'll take your word on Imelda!

Very interesting!

i htought cadena de amor was white. i often heard of them growing up but none was planted in my neighborhood and never really saw one in the philippines.

i wonder if cadena de amor is the same as the jasmine?

Very vibrant pink - they almost look like Red bud blooms in the States (except the red buds aren't on vines).

The coral vine is absolutely gorgeous, so delicate. Thanks for sharing them and I'm sorry I am so late in stopping by. Trying to catch up now :)

Beautiful. I would love to live in a climate where beautiful flowers bloom all the time. There is 3 inches of snow here in Kentucky in central USA. Stop by my neck of the woods, if you find time.
