[SkyWatch] Fly Me to the Moon

Manila, 2010

Have a few minutes to chill on this last day of the week?

Go listen to this jazzy take by fellow Canadian Diane Krall on the timeless song Fly Me to the Moon... or maybe you'd prefer to hear it as a ballad sung by sultry Denise Brigham. Or in the clear voice of Sarah Vaughn - she'll make you smile. No, you like the smoothness of Nat King Cole? Expressive Tony Bennet? Ah, yes, you can also watch Frank Sinatra, who's swing rendition is probably best known of all.

Many more big names in music have entertained us with this classic.  The song was first recorded in 1954 by Kaye Ballard, also a wonderful voice. Whichever version you choose to listen to today, this song is sure to put you in a marvelous mood for the weekend.

So who was your entertainer of choice to fly to the moon?

You'll find hundreds of fantastic skies at SkyWatch Friday.

That is a unique photo, serendipitous. Last time i opened your site thinking you're in Manila, then your photo was in NY, then i opened again and you posted Strasbourg. haha! Yet your address is really Manila, but you look not Filipino. That's fine, you are a foreigner who comes over here many times in a year...maybe! Glad to meet you and your very beautiful photos.

Fabulous timing, Francisca. "Fly me to the moon" sounds so much better than be sent there by rocket. Dick would like to be a moon tourist if the had that kind of money, but I think I'd hate it. Claustrophobia, for one thing, and I'd be afraid I'd be uprooted from my favorite planet.

You'll have me humming that song the rest of the afternoon, which is probably a good thing because we're packing loot bags for public school children today. :)

Perfect timing on your photo!

PS -- Tony Bennett, definitely. My favorite Tony Bennett song is "Rags to Riches" - wonderful power in his voice, and shows off his whole range.

Catchy song, whoever sings it. I love listening to Diana Krall - got lots of her stuff in my iTunes folder. The photo is pretty amazing - so clear. It looks like that plane could get there!

This is so beautiful and I like all the renditions apart from Sinatra's - I admire his breath control and phrasing, just don't like his voice . . .

I can never seem to get the size of the moon in a shot, it always comes out too small!! But yes fly me to the moon sung by Diana is wonderful but classic for classic has to be be Blue Eyes:))

Lovely post, lovely song. And I have to admit that I remember the Kay Ballard version (I was a remantic 14). But I like the Frank Sinatra version better. Thanks for the memories!)
