Waiting for the Water

Sibiu in Transylvania, 280 km / 170 mi north of Bucharest, has a picturesque town square in its old center. In the middle of the large open space is a fountain that spouts intermittently. Children and pigeons hang around patiently waiting for the water.

This image joins Weekend Reflections and Weekend in Black & White.
[It is more interesting enlarged.]

The fountain brings joy to the kids...

... and to the pigeons who use it to bathe.

This is a longer view of this charming square and fountain.

What a facinating fountain. I like the way everything's so calm in the first photo, and active in the fourth.

Now, this is a useful fountain!
I wonder if it catches any unsuspecting visitors by surprise?!

I can see this is "modern and colorful" instead of the total grey congrete cities that I know of! Cute that the pigeons joined in with the fun of the fountain:)

Another blogger named Kaye mentioned that the tree in my reflection is a Russian olive tree.

Delightful photos, Francisca. I love that the fountain is intermittent, like Old Faithful.

Must be maddening for mothers when their offspring decide to take a sudden shower in the middle of the morning.

love the top shot especially with the reflections - these types of fountain seem to be everywhere these days - I'm not sure I care for them much - perhaps because three such near us replaced a) a lovely garden area b) a once thriving market and c)a group of old shops.

in such a big open square, something is needed, so why not a fountain that spouts intermittently and entertains kids and pigeons.

I thought you meant SIBU, my home town and when I was young, we used to write we are from CEBU. Small world.

You are right about the red crane, it looks like one to me as well.

What a beautiful set of fountains in the city center. Lovely. Your different shots captured the image beautifully. I really feel like I am there when looking at them. You are living and traveling in some gorgeous places. genie

So funny. I can just see a bunch of kids, old folks, and pigeons standing around together waiting for the fountain to spurt forth its blessings!

Really nice! I saw the first pic on my phone the other day and I liked it, but it's way better large size. I love the pigeons, of course!
