Our Family's Future Mural

Cebu, 2011

This is another values-oriented mural (better seen enlarged) in my Visayas series linked with Monday Mural. Another piece of art soiled by a tagger.

Moving towards green and sustainable economies, and poverty eradication were key themes discussed at the Rio+20 conference in Brazil a few weeks ago. While the outcome document The Future We Want is a lofty read, many, including me, were disappointed that it contained no measurable targets or timelines to guide governance.

It's hard for me to fathom how our one and only earth - and we humans on it - can survive in the long run if we don't take more proactive action to protect it and to live in harmony with nature.

Where to start with the comments...I like the caution on this one - it is so hard for me to understand why people don't understand that they can't just go about destroying nature! And then, I like the soft colors used, and the many different objects from nature. But, sadly, the defacing of something as beautiful as this work of art makes me even sadder at the people who would deface this... there are so many emotions this one brings out in me...sorry I rambled on so long! It is a lovely find and glad you captured it for us!

Follow up The Future We Want with Paul Gilding's The Great Disruption. He covers the same subject with the bent that we will do something when it becomes critical and politics stops getting in the way - scary, depressing and yet he leaves you with some hope.

As far as the mural, really gorgeous. Tagging by others is just simply rude, which often states the tagger has no real artistic bent, they are just hooligans. At least in my town, the word is out - tagging murals is a real jerk thing to do, and I am seeing it less and less fortunately.

Happy Monday!

I like the image of giving birth the earth. The tagging is definitely rude.

A lovely peaceful mural that someone has defaced!

I just hate to see other people ruining another's work of art.

Its beauty and importance shows and remains through the violence it obtained.

Please have a good Tuesday.

This reminds me that more than once, people I've met say they don't care about all that so much because they don't have children.
What a wonderfully self-contained existence....

Agree but no idea what we can do to change the minds of our leaders! It's frustrating and easier to not think about it. And I hate that.

We are not good shepherds of our lovely planet that's for sure. I'm pretty sure the earth will outlast us all... Love the mural!

This looks like a lovely mural marred by the thoughtlessness of someone who wasn't persuaded by the sentiment being taught. Once I enlarged the image, I was caught by the irony of the plastic litter at the base of the wall. I read on Wiki that Cebu is the oldest city in the Philippines yet has one of the most modern economies. The mural suggests there still is a large subsistence fishing tradition here. Makes me wonder who the audience is for this mural's lesson. Thanks for your contribution to Monday Mural.

Those tagged make me so angry especially when they deface something beautiful like that.

In some ways I am glad that I am getting old, and will not be here to see what I fear will happen to both our planet and its people.

Your mural is lovely and the tagging while sad does not diminish the message.
