Pretty Factory

Say mural and I think of compelling wall art; you know, a painting or a tile mosaic image. So now you tell me, is this a mural?

Hong Kong, 2010

We can agree it's painting, yes? It's on the walls of what I can only call gigantic storage drums (anyone know a more correct term?) of some kind of plant (cement, perhaps, although it looks too clean).

The pleasantly painted image of the green islands in the blue sea under a blue sky blends nicely into the coastal setting of Hong Kong.

And I'd bet the owners of these multi-million dollar condominiums are not displeased with the effort made to beautify their view.

And that made it compelling enough for me to show you this today for Monday Mural. What do you think?

::::::

This past week I have been supporting a fundraising drive for scholarships for the poorest of the poor children in a slum in Manila. The response has been totally wonderful.

If you'd care to chip in $5, $10, $20 or whatever, to help get a child like Cynthia OUT of the charcoal factory of Ulingan and INTO school, please see my earlier posts this week for more details and securely contribute with the form on my sidebar.

Give the gift of education. And hope.

I think this is a brilliant approach to adding some real creativity to something that would otherwise be quite mundane in the landscape.

I am so glad to see others doing things for these poor third world children. I have made dresses for Little Dresses for Africa, and I knit hats for my hematologist to give to her cancer patients and to take back to India to give to the needy children there. It brings me such pleasure. Your mural shots are so neat. I really like it, and those homes up there are the hill are awesome. It must be nice to have money. genie

I am glad you can sneak in something for us again. And that is a very lovely mural blending well with its environment. The condominium units blend properly as well. and thank you very much for helping some underprivilege children in our country, you will be more blessed!

Yes, it is definitely a mural. Rounded edges do not a mural un-make. (I'm sure I read that somewhere, didn't I?)
I'm so glad the funding for the children is going well. I really believe in education. I didn't have children of my own, but I'm a very involved aunt, and my husband has grandchildren, so I get to be a grandmother, too.

This has to be the largest surface for a mural we've seen. A tranquil image that contributes to its surroundings. Thanks for participating in this week's Monday Mural.

Incredible, it works well. The last shot putting it into perspective is the one that amazes me.

Definitely a mural - anything that helps brighten up a large dull or ugly space does it for me!

Yes, definitely a mural! And a lovely one too! It certainly changes what would be a drab-looking set of silos! Glad the fundraising is going well also!

That is definitely a mural. That view with those condominiums is astounding! It was a bit unexpected to say the least.

Positively delightful, it is in fact a wall of something no? Your second photo, picking up all the colors in the boats and the surroundings, blending with the mural is just stunning.

this is art as far as i know, but mural per se, i can't tell. let me wiki it for more clarity :)

but the idea of beautifying these is welcome by me.

Looks nice, or at least nicer than most of 'ordinary' factories:)

This is quite wonderful blending the industrial usage into the landscape!

The colors of the mural (yes, it is) blend with the surrounding, earth tones.

This should be done to every place of the kind. See how different it looks!
