Red for Good Luck

Red is the color for good luck and success for Chinese everywhere and over the weeks of the lunar new year celebrations, China is bathed in the color.

Tomorrow is Chinese New Year's Eve and Thursday is the first day of the Year of the Rabbit. A couple of weeks ago when I was in China, on the streets and in the stores and malls red decorations were coming out on display. Makeshift shops on the streets selling red new year products were starting to pop up like mushrooms.

 Chinese knots
Chinese lanterns, calendars, red pockets and calligraphy posters
 Guangdong, 2011
 Mall decoration

Even red underwear for good luck

I wish you and yours
Kung Hei Fat Choy!

Today I link with MyWorld Tuesday and Ruby Tuesday.

Kung Hei Fat Choy to you, too, my dear friend.
(I wonder if red underwear really is lucky.)

The reds remind me of my Chinese costume in our high school when we did a presentation of A Mountain Dance.

We will have a festival this weekend in Chinatown.

P.S. I love whatever you do, you get to travel and work at the same time.

There's something about red...a powerful color. That's why Tiger Woods wears red on the last day (Sunday) of a golf tournament...

Beautiful photos, Francisca. And thanks so much for all your comments today! You are too kind.

Kung Hei Fat Choy to you, too! That doesn't roll off the tongue like "feeling the fruit" does! :-)

Funny story about your Chinese/Canadian friend...Ocala has become quite well known around the world...and yes, it is a nice place...you'll have to visit sometime...

Dillards is a really nice store but I can only shop there when they have their 75% off sales...too expensive otherwise!

The photo of the ski shop was taken last September when we visited out daughter. That whole area is very cold today and very snowy!

Sounds like things are going well for you - and your new business venture!

This is a lot of red! Red underwear is common even here for New Year's Eve.

Wonderful reds! I remember reading in novels about red being the color for wedding dresses in China and I thought how great that would be.

Happy Year of the Rabbit (I had meant to put the Chinese Happy New Year phrase here, but it was 60 seconds ago when I read it ... ). Sallie (needing more coffee).

That's what I like in Chinese New Year red is everywhere! I worked for nine years in a Chinese owned company and every New Year they gave us this red envelope...that means money!!! ^_^ Great shots Francisca!

You bought a new red dress? I don't buy new stuff during CNY.

Tonight, I am having steam boat, because my daughter and her boy friend is coming back for dinner.
