M is for Metal Monster

Some call it junk art.

 Guangzhou, 2010

What do you say?

These metal monsters were modeled in front of one of the many massive exhibition buildings that in totality is loosely referred to as the Guangzhou Trade Fair... or, much to my mounting dismay, the old colonial term, Canton Fair. I've attended it as buyer, or in more recent years as seller, since 1985. This Jinhan Fair holds a multitude of exhibitors on five floors marketing their giftware and home decor.

There were lots of mesmerized local onlookers.

M is the letter at Jenny's Alphabe-Thursday, and there you will find links to many other posts on subjects starting with M.

People are quite generous with the term art today, so I guess this can't be worse of some contemporary junk they keep in museums. At least this is funny and creative!

Oh fabulous! We love things made out of junk... i even have a WHOLE post dedicated to "Repurposed Crafts" (http://www.redtedart.com/2011/01/01/recycled-get-crafty/) one of which reminds me of your monsters (the fridge magnet)

Wow. What a fascinating post.

I love rusted metal art...this is a little out of my range of things I normally like but I'm intriqued by all the laters and colors and textures.

Thanks for a fun stop this week on our little journey through Alphabe-Thursday.

My favorite thing is the expression on the onlookers faces!

Thank you for linking.

A+

I look at this two ways: 1) Junk is junk, no matter how elaborately it is arranged, and 2) it is good that some people take junk and put it to use so it doesn't end up in a landfill polluting our earth!
