Dressing Up

Every year in July the good people of Mongolia enjoy their biggest national event, the Naadam Festival of Manly Sports: wrestling, horse racing and archery. Whether they come to compete or to cheer, most come decked out in their traditional attire. I captured this woman checking herself out in a possible new jacket in the main market of Ulaanbaatar where days before the event the crowds in the clothing section were elbow-to-elbow.

Mongolia, 2007

This is posted for Weekend Reflections hosted by James where you can find links to many more takes on this fun theme.

PS. I'll be posting more about this most wonderful festival in the months to come. Should you be curious, be sure to come back.

The clothes may be unique to the area but her expression transcends boundaries. She could be in M&S, UK!

I notice that women compete in the "manly arts." I love the colors here. Wonderful job with the reflection, too. And the outfits - I guess that goes without saying!

I thought she was holding a framed photo :). Wow, I'd love to see Mongolia.

Thats so interesting - what a fascinating journey you are on with your camera. Good reflection aswell - and she didn't even mind you taking her photo either.

I love seeing traditional clothes of different countries! We have many mongolian sumo wrestlers in Japan, so sometimes we'd see the men in traditional outfits but from this photo, I like the women's as well :-)

PS: Thank you so much for the birthday wishes! xo
