Kalinga - Part V - Children

This is Part V of my Kalinga series. The posts have been consecutive, so it's easy for you to find Parts I to IV, which contain more information about the province - its landscape, its people, and its history.

In this post I will simply share some of the adorable children I saw in the poor mountain village of Buscalan.

Our group came with presents for the children, useful things like toothbrushes and multivitamins, as well as some candies, a rare treat. These were handed out in small bags, one-by-one, so the children were asked to line up in neat lines.

Minutes later, it started to rain, so all the kids ran for cover and the lines were no more.

Buscalan, Kalinga, 2012

Wonder where we were? Here's the map.

Today I link with Mosaic Monday and Our World Tuesday.

There will be a Part VI soon.

Thank you for the map. Sad to say, I know very little about the geography of the Philippines. The kids are indeed very cute and I'm not surprised they didn't want to stand out in the rain.:)

Great photos as ever. Were those drums or gongs that the boys were playing with on the ground?

Thank you, Mr Parrots. The boys were playing around with the adult males' gangsa gongs that were later played while the women of the village danced the ceremonial eagle dance. I'll post a few shots in my next post, perhaps with video.

What a simple life they lead - yet they seem fairly well nourished and ever so beautiful.

Lovely shots.

Is this the trip you took with Al? i like the portrait of the boy in the 3rd photo, he looks shy as most of the kids in these villages. they may lack the things that city kids have but i bet they have a more fulfilling childhood.:p

The children are adorable, Francisca. And the map really helps put the whole story into perspective.

That's a lot of children for a little village! The conditions in the future are very different from the past, and if they will still do the same things the ancestors are doing, it might pose a problem later on, with that rate of population growth. On your side, i will remind you of someone else's comment in the past posts, yours are for NG, you should try that route too for a side or hobby job!

Childern are beautiful, marvellous little beings everywhere on the world!

They're so sweet Francisca -- I just can't stop looking. Especially love the picture of the great-grandmother type with the baby (that strikes a chord and makes me think about what is the same everywhere).
