Kensington Market Mural and Artist

I've just returned home to Manila from a frenetic month in Toronto and Los Angeles. It was an unexpected trip, in countless ways terrific, especially for being able to reconnect with old friends and family long not seen, as well as to connect with new friends, including fellow bloggers Halcyon and VioletSky!

But while I did almost always carry a camera, I didn't have a spare moment to compose, post or blog hop these past weeks.

I accompanied my lovely friend and hero Ruth on a number of her exciting explorations for her calendar of free multicultural activities in Toronto and her blog. If you live in the Toronto area, these are quality sites to subscribe to.

On one of our excursions we dropped by Kensington Market, one of the city's most vibrant and multicultural neighborhoods. That is where I saw this artist painting on canvas on a mural-filled wall. Thinking that his style looked similar to the mural, I asked him whether he had painted the house and was surprised to hear him say no. So I can tell you no more about this colorful mural I post for Mural Monday.

What fun to capture an artist at work. I wish I had known the fellows were going to do the mural I posted this week - I would have gone out to catch them at work! Very nice, colorful use of the wall - I like it!

I see RedPat's favorite Yellow Bird all over the wall. Yet the wall also looks like it contains other artists too. The fire breathing godzilla made me laugh. Your guy seems to be adding his contribution over an already painted section. Maybe it's understood that the wall is an open canvas? His work definitely fits the cartoon feel of the other parts. Thanks for contributing to Monday Mural. And welcome home.

I can't believe it but I posted exactly the same mural today!! And then I started checking out the other entrants for the day. Two great minds think alike!!

How fun that you were able to photograph the building mural and the canvas mural in progress! Perhaps he was using the building mural as inspiration. :)

Too funny! You and RedPat were on the same wave length.

I'm so sorry I was unable to meet with you, Francisca! I feel like I was cheated but I had plans I could not change that day. Boohoo!

Love the guys work, have to wonder why he was stationed in front of the mural, I assume for inspiration. Both artists are really great. Fun that you caught a completely different mood than RedPat

It was very nice to meet you as well!

Did you and RedPat plan to post these at the same time? Pretty funny coincidence. But a colorful and fun mural from any viewpoint. :)

This is such a great mural that seeing it twice was just double the fun.

Interesting seeing the artist and his canvas even if he is not the famous (or is it infamous) UB5000.

Sounds like a great, if unexpected, trip -- sometimes the best!

Hey there! Love the colors on this one! I didn't know you were going to be in my neck of the woods... Actually, I'm smack dab in the middle, between San Diego and Los Angeles. Sorry, it was unusually hot here lately.

Wow that is really something!
Sounds like an interesting trip! I look forward to seeing more photos. I lived most of my life less than 50 miles from Los Angeles but I've never been to Toronto. Come to think of it I rarely went to LA. I actually know my way around Paris better. Bring on the photos!:)
