Venasque WWI Memorial

Today I bring you to the medieval town of Venasque in Provence.

Less than a dozen kilometers southeast from Carpentras where my parents lived for many years, perched up on a rocky outcrop, is this picturesque old town we often passed through on our outings by car.

Fortunately we stopped one time so I could capture this World War I memorial for Taphophile Tragics.

Venasque, 2007

While I liked the monochrome version, my honey preferred the color... so mouseover and choose your own. But he agreed that this handsome profile of the fallen soldier looked better in black and white.

The war memorial stands next to the Romanesque Church of Notre-Dame (12th-17th C).

And overlooks the Nesque valley below.

Intriguing! The World War I memorial looks weathered, but still holding dramatic power! And the chapel style is so cute!

I still suspect that you do photography for National Geographic. If not you should be. I agree with with your honey. Colour is my choice also.

Both are good, but black and white is perfect for it.
Wow! That valley is strikingly beautiful...

I''m with you, I prefer the black and white. But it's a great memorial either way. :)

The black and white is quite wonderful but I love all these photos of this very beautiful place.

I definitely like the black and whites better, but all your photos are beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

My vote goes to the colour for the mouse-over, but definitely the B&W fir the silhouette. It is a most handsome profile.

The iron cross is so dramatic and 'watchful'. So many eyes, watching, watching, watching.

The view down the valley reminds me very much of the view from Les Baux, just south of Saint Remy. An astounding part of the world. But there are many astounding parts of this world of ours.

YOur posts, ranging across the world as they do, are a delight, and I thank you for your continued support.
