Over the Top

 Bucharest, 2011

Can you tell I'm not fond of in-your-face advertising? Piata Romana is made none the more attractive for it.

This post links with Signs, Signs.

I so agree. Though I understand the need for the money, city squares look so less attractive for the brightly lit signs.

I've been drinking Coke since I was kid. Now a days I prefer it with a shot of Canadian Club in it. That sign looks like it is animated.

And the really sad part is that the signs are usually of a multinational conglomerate. You could be almost anywhere in the world and the glaring signs outshine the surroundings.

Money makes the world go around, the world go around, etc.

Guess I'm in the minority; maybe I like it because it's RED and I love Coke products. Oh, well.

I've seen worse neon eyesores ... if they could have left it with just the top part lit up it would have been kind of cool!

That is one BIG Coke bottle. It certainly seems out of place here, but over the computer screen it looks pretty cheery!

The multinational advert is does lack invention. Although I must admit to a weakness for true neon lettering.

those multinational companies' ads are everywhere. i saw something similar in spain above pretty buildings.

Advertising seems to be a major part of modern-day life, unfortunately.

This is a nice night shot! But I agree...I think advertising like this is cheap and gaudy.

He who pays, wins :(
Even if the advert stands out like a huge ugly pimple on the building.

I agree. Except for Times Square.

I'm with Ciel. Usually advertisements like this don't add to a city. But Times Square wouldn't be the same without all the lights!

I agree, too. But am not surprised it's coca-cola. They're advertisements are always flashy! ;D

The title says it all! :-)

What a way to advertise. Love the color of coca-cola but refraining of drinking it a lot. Thanks for sharing!

Bold colorful signs seem to have become a natural part of city environments. Maybe it's because I don't live close to a city that I kind of enjoy seeing them. How strange is that??

Especially so when beautiful buildings are scarred by it...

I do not like excess either, it is such a waste at times...
