Taxi Driver Reflects

Is there anyone who has NOT been in a taxi with a driver who knows his global news?

Tonight we had gone further away than usual from our apartment to buy our groceries at a Carrefour, a large French-owned hypermarket. As we came out of the building, boldly parked right in front of the line of yellow taxis, was this driver with a beat-up old gray car who enthusiastically offered a deal to get us back home and, after the nod, quickly lifted our heavy bags into his trunk. We were stunned that the "official" cab drivers did not utter a squeak in protest.

We speak no Romanian and our driver knew no more than a few words of English, and still, yes and still, he and my brother together managed to sort out the problems of our world. I just sat in the back, enjoyed their banter and captured this driver (and photographer) in the small mirror attached to his cracked front windshield.

    Oh my goodness, Francisca, there really is sunlight reflected in the cracks! Wonderful. And I love the story of the men communicating despite the language barrier. Must be a guy thing. LOL

    How you manage on a daily basis not speaking the language is amazing to me. Your facial expressions and hands must be your language! These 2 shots are great. The first in b/w definitely shows of the reflection and the crack, but the second one REALLY does it. The light on the cracks is awesome. Great shots. Genie

    heheheh, the trouble is the computer has taken all my cooking skills, and the food is barely edible. I tried a new recipe cooking curry with the slow cooker, and the son said it taste terrible, and I threw the whole pot out. Tonight, i played it safe and boild a big pot of chicken with chicken herbs, the herbal smell permeates to the whole house. Not going to cook any veges.

    These photos would not be nearly as interesting without the cracked windshield. Hope his brakes are in better shape than the rest of the car. (Wink)

    Very fun post -- I like the way you captured both meanings of the word! Yes, cab drivers are among those we encounter who do know how to solve the worlds' problems ;>)
