This face was painted on the same metal fence as the whimsical double-headed ostriches last week, but I felt it deserved a post of its own. It doesn't look to me like it was created by the same artist; does it to you?

ReplyDeleteI get the feeling that this person really meant a lot to the artist for them to take such great pains with it.
I've been to Cebu always in the past while i was still the research coordinator for that region, however i haven't any glimpse of the posts you showed us. This one is also interesting. You are inspiring me to look at murals now. I wonder when can i go to the fence of Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife to shoot the newly done murals there. How do you delineate difference between good graffiti and bad murals?
ReplyDeleteAndrea, I can't wait to go home to Manila and discover the new murals you've been telling me about! As for differentiating... murals are creative wall art that are invited, while graffiti are illicit. That's not to be confused with what is good or bad art - both murals and graffiti can be either and that is probably in the eye of the beholder. It's easy for me to dislike bad graffiti. But to be frank, I am conflicted about good graffiti... I do not know whether the art on this wall was invited or not... but I'd say it's been there a while and no one has attempted to erase/cover it. And in my eye it does enhance its environment.

ReplyDeleteIt's a very good portrait, indeed. I also think it is a different author, one skilled in portraits. The eyes of the model are very piercing.

This face looks like it was lovingly painted. I always find myself free associating to images I encounter. Those big, limpid eyes reminded me of Byzantine mosaics, especially Theodora in Ravenna. Then the longer I looked, with those oh so thin eyebrows, I started thinking of silent film stars. Weird where the mind goes when it wanders. This face is intriguing and I'm glad you gave it its own space.

ReplyDeleteFrancisca, Your last posts have been more than beautiful. The bridge yesterday and now this face on the metal fence. The look is her eyes is so distant. I cannot help but wonder what the artist was thinking when he painted them. Awesome shots. genie
ReplyDeleteThere is something about the background around her face that reminds me of hair. She looks angelic or spiritual in some way.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if it was done by the same person or not, but I really like both. This one, I love. the expression, colors and texture are amazing! I think it was a good idea to post them on different days.
