P is for Plow

On our way back home after a meeting in the city of Târgovişte we stopped at a roadside car wash in a small village about an hour north of Bucharest. While the car was getting a good clean, I went for a stroll with my camera.

This friendly farmer with a simple manual plow walked towards me and I asked (with body language) if I could take his photo. Didn't he give me a wonderful smile and pose?

He may be one of the 64% of Romanian farmers who produces on a rather small plot of land for personal consumption.

Despite the vintage look I gave this photograph, I took it only two months ago.

This primitive plow and perky plower join Jennie's Alphabe-Thursday where P is the letter of the week.

  1. When you compare that plow to the enormous, computerized and air-conditioned behemoths that ride up and down our farm fields you have to wonder who's got it right.

  6. That looks like a complicated piece of machinery...but a very nice smile! Bet he knows perfectly well what he's doing. I love making my own veggies, too :D

  7. I'm sure he works extremely hard to grow his crops. I wouldn't care to have to use that equipment.

  9. It's hard to believe people still use those types of tools.... which just goes to show what a narrow existence I lead!

  10. I like the way you show us this man at work. Romania, this is so typical. A saw so many people doing it this way or with the help from a horse.
That is another life in the European Union.

Re this gentleman with the plow: I just love pictures (or portraits) of people in their daily life and that reflect their character and personality.
