Night Fishing Banca

Filipino fishermen use lights on their often brightly colored bancas (hand-made outrigger canoes) to attract the fish at night.

  3. Another lovely image, and a combination I always enjoy, water and boats no matter what part of the world they are in. Have a great week Francisca.

Sinai was wonderful, such a beautiful place - I spent there a couple of days wandering around (including fabulous mountain trip).

  6. It's a lovely picture and definitely works for both memes. But I best love getting these little snippets of information -- didn't know about this custom. But I can see how it would work well for them.

  10. I wouldn't mind trying. I used to fish on a fishing boat on the Atlantic coast. Lovely colours here.

  11. The boats are so narrow -- I can understand why they need the stabilisers!

  12. What a colorful shot. The fishing boat is really unique but probably seen often in your part of the world. Love the bit of red on the guy. Nice capture. Genie

  14. Ooh this looks like a fun boat. Much more stable that a regular boat, too. I wonder what it looks like with all the lights on :D

  15. The outriggers are absolutely essential, I should think. Lovely photo full of interest - and the additional information makes it even better:-)

  16. The boat looks like a huge insect. I should think the stabilisers are necessary for such a slim craft on the open sea. I do love finding out about your part of the world - literally 'the other side of the world' for me.
