In my [personal] world it is a rare occasion that I get up early; I am a confirmed night owl and subjected to a fair amount of [deserved] teasing about it from my friends.
But when I do get up at the crack of dawn, if it's not to catch an early plane, it's typically for something exciting. On our trip to Mindoro some months ago, I was roused from bed to go see the fishermen come in with their catches of the day. I'm so very glad I did. Here is some of what I saw (all images can be enlarged).

Oh, I love those boats with the outriggers. Do they really use those small nets to catch the fish? I can't see anything that looks familiar, like the equipment on a trawler or seiner.
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of fish are those (with the long fins on their sides)?
Fabulous post, Francisca, but has me bursting with questions.

Oh, I love the boats, too! How fun to watch bringing in the catch for the day! Great captures as always, Francisca! And always fun to visit your world each week! Hope your new year is off to a great start! Enjoy!

Yep, I sure am glad you got up to see this. And you remembered your camera too! :))
ReplyDeleteOh my Francisca another photo that reminds me of my native country. Yup that is what we see early in the morning almost all the shores of the Philippines. The fish is called yellow fin tuna love it!! Happy New Year!

Beautiful pictures!
ReplyDeleteLove the boats and the catch! Many of our fishermen would be envious.
ReplyDeleteThat's worth getting up early to see Francisca! Thanks for sharing. When we stayed on the Texas gulf coast we were within a short walk of where the shrimp boats came in -- it was great fun to watch (and buy direct from the boat).
ReplyDeleteThis was worth getting up for. I especially like the image of the boy. The net in his other hand also has the shape of a fish!
ReplyDeleteHow exciting to see.
ReplyDeleteAnd such a little boy starting at such an early age.
It is almost always a worthwhile venture to get up early. Unless, of course, you're too tired or hung over or whatever...
ReplyDeleteYou did good! Great photos of the boats, the men (and boys) and the fish! I love early morning, but usually don't get up myself. Your pics are so good I think I can smell that rather misty air and the fish and I can hear the sounds of creaking boats and humans talking...
Very cool how they hold the fish by the tails! You can tell they're very used to it. I'm a late sleeper like you, especially in the cold winter, but I'm glad you woke up early for these photos! ;D
ReplyDeleteWonderful series. The fish is almost as big as the cute little boy. :-)
ReplyDeleteThat first shot is beautiful. Love all the faces and fishes they caught.
