[SkyWatch] Skies after the Storm

These sky images I captured today may look pretty so-so to you, but to those of us here in the Philippines who just got battered by yet another hellish typhoon the past days, the blue and white is heavenly.

Manila, 2011

After billboards caused serious injury to man and property during a typhoon last year it was decreed that billboard canopies be rolled up before the high winds rolled in. 



While I stayed safely under cover in my home, inconvenienced only by a 20-hour cut to internet access in my area, other photographers far braver than I captured the havoc. 

The city is quickly being cleaned up, but sigh, the blue skies may be short-lived. We are bracing for another storm predicted to land on the weekend. So if you don't see me online...

    Oh, such beautiful skies and clouds, Cisca, I know they must have been so very welcome and your captures are terrific! I'll be holding good thoughts for you over the weekend and hope you're able to avoid another clash with one of Mother Natures wild children. Take care, stay safe!

    The pictures are lovely and the info about the billboards is most interesting. But what this points out to me more than anything is how we here in the States see so very little news about the Phillipines. Maybe it's me and I don't pay enough attention to weather news, but gosh, it seems like a typhoon like those you talk about here would be mentioned in our media.

    Oh dear lord what a mess on those photos you linked to! Yours look so benign. In a way, the one with the billboard frames is a poignant reminder.

    Hello Francisca, you're home, where my home is! Lovely captures of typical sights here. I was along C5 yesterday from Quezon City to McKinley and just forgot my Point and Shoot. Those billboard frames and skies were also what i thought of! Take care for the next typhoon already here!

    I think the skies look beautiful. I love to watch cloud formations although I am sure when you get those terrible storms they look very frightening. Thanks for visiting and commenting on my sign post.

    How sad to see all that destruction, I hope the recovery is going well. Judging by your photos at least the weather is good while all the recovery work going on.

    I hope there was no power outage, its always the case when there is typhoon.

    I hope the predicted storm passes you by. Love your happy skies. I have seen very dramatic photos of the typhoon on some blogs, devastating.

    I hate cyclones, typhoons, hurricanes! We've been lucky so far this year, but it ain't over yet!

    Re the first photo: That's a great idea. But I don't think the powers-that-be would do it here...instead the billboards blow all over creation, creating more havoc!

    Those are very tall structures for bill boards.

    Typhoons must be frightening to those with small houses.

    Wow! I haven't caught the news for over a week and didn't know you were having these weather problems. I hope there isn't too much loss of life. The middle photo is AMAZING! Keep your powder dry...
