Apple Blossoms

The apple blossoms' shower of pearl,
Though blent with rosier hue
As beautiful as woman's blush
As evanescent too.”
      ~ Letitia E Landon (English poet/novelist, 1802–1838)
The apple blossom exists to create fruit; when that comes, the petal falls.
      ~ Kabir (Indian Philosopher, 1398-1519)

Austria, 2011

I saw this magnificent apple tree in bloom this past spring in Austria.

Linking with Shadow Shot Sunday (see the gentle  shadows of the stamen on the petals?), Weekend Flowers, Today's Flower, and Macro Monday.

  1. A lovely reminder of spring - when the petals fall it's like a snowstorm.

  6. Apple blossoms, I think, are the most beautiful of all fruit tree flowers.

    IF SHADOWS

    If shadows could jump,
    How high would they go?
    As high as the moon?
    Does anyone know?

    If shadows could weep,
    How long would they cry?
    As long as it takes
    To climb to the sky?

    If shadows could laugh
    And tell funny jokes
    Would you take them home
    And say, “Get this, folks!”?

    If shadows could wed,
    Would they prefer you
    Or somebody else
    To promise, “I do”?

  12. Delightful soft shadows, Francisca. Apple blossoms always remind me of my childhood in the Okanagan.
Right now we're cruising through Russia -- today the River Svir and Lake Onega. St. Petersburg was amazing.
If I can't comment often, please know I'm doing the best I can.

  30. Francisca - your apple blosson photo's are lovely. Weekend flowers looks like a fun blog to link to. I enjoyed reading about your travels. I smile at the contrast in our lives. I live in the house I grew up in and my daily travels to work are less than a minute away. In my case I think the quote "bloom where you are planted" works fo me..happy travels to you!!

  34. This tree reminds me a bit of our cottonwoods when they are in bloom, but the apple blossoms are prettier! I don't know much about apple trees, but I'm wondering if each blossom means an apple?
