The skies around Bucharest this past week have been nothing to moan about... a lot of blue! But while they brighten my world, they're not always the most photogenic. So I framed these images for SkyWatch Friday with just a few of the many ornate crosses on Romanian Orthodox Churches I've seen on my walks here.

I do really like these elaborate orthodox crosses.
ReplyDelete(We seem to have had the same idea!)
As you say, the decorative crosses have a way of showing off not only themselves but also the horizon they so beautifully frame. Sometimes seeing the sky through objects makes the view much more interesting. :)
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful variations!
ReplyDeleteNice theme :)
ReplyDeleteHave an awesome weekend
cheers from Montevideo :0

Gorgeous, Francisca. I particularly like the second one, although I can't say why.
ReplyDeleteToo funny, missing the whole point of the dog and sausage sign. I must have been having one of those days. :o)

stunningly blue...so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWonderful collection of crosses! Happy skywatching!
ReplyDeleteThat makes a wonderful collection. The ornate crosses really set off the sky and I think seeing what the sky sets off is a big part of skywatching!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes I have found that unremitting blue skies are not much more photogenic than unremitting gray ones. (although more fun to walk around under!)
wow, what ornate crosses, as you say. and the top one has wings beneath it which show much more clearly when enlarged. that's my fave. when combined with the blue skies they're fabulous. happy SWF Francisca.
ReplyDeleteThe variety of crosses is pleasing to the eye. Didn't know there was a Romanian Orthodox Church.
ReplyDeleteThis is such an interesting and different post. The crosses are all so unique against the backdrop of he sky. I am wondering if the Romanian Orthodox Church is the same as the Greek Orthodox Church. You did a wonderful job with your captures this week.
ReplyDeleteI love these. On my list to do this summer is to take a walk around downtown Milwaukee and see the old churches and their steeples that standout along the lakefront.
ReplyDeleteare you in Europe, was talking to a German colleague, she says, mustn't eat any greens in Europe, not nice.
ReplyDeleteSo many beautiful and ornate crosses!
ReplyDeleteLovely tops to Orthodox churches.
ReplyDeleteGreat set of cross shots, all are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteNice crosses. Nice skies.
ReplyDeletegreat idea for SWF! i love ornate crosses--they're romantic. also love the old world feel of these crosses.
ReplyDeleteNot just crosses, but also art! Nice photos of them...
ReplyDeleteHello Francisca,
ReplyDeleteHappy Skywatch Friday.
Each of the church -top Crosses make a beautiful work of art against the sky-makes me want join in the fun and keep an eye out for images of crosses, too.
